Christian Reutz pipe-making journey started some years ago with a piece of cherry wood and a set of ancient carving knives that he was gifted by his father in law. Unfortunately and luckily at the same time there is not really a big pipe community in Austria. On the one hand this made the process of learning and improving harder – no one told him about a perfect drill, how to read the wood or even about briar, contrast staining or Danish classics. But maybe this was also a lucky chance – because on the other hand it was a lot more naturally occurring to develop his own style, learn from failure, improve by improvising.
Christian also had good help from Peter Matzhold to improve his skills.
